FOR MUSICAL THEATRE
The programme of 8 sessions, led by Jonathan Butterell and Jeremy Sams, will run on Saturday afternoons from 1pm -4pm between 27 October and 15 December. Sessions will be held in the Platform space at the Young Vic London.
The sessions will immerse the members in the specifics of the musical form, how the scene and the song can be expressed in dramatic momentum, listening to music, and collaborative practice. Working with a musical director and appropriate performers, various musical scenes will be put on their feet. Later in the term, a choreographer might sit in to add to the collaborative dialog.
While this module will cover established texts, a further module is foreseen for next year on developing new work. This year’s work will focus on Sweeney Todd, Carousel, Guys and Dolls, Light in the Piazza and Hamilton.
After the eight sessions, there will be two additional events early next year: one to interact with BML writers and one with choreographers.
There are eight places in the workshop and we would like a lively mix in the room.
The closing date for applications is 5pm. on Wednesday 10th October, and there will be short interviews for finalists on either 13th or 14th October.
The cost of the programme is £160 for the 8 sessions.
Please send a CV and a short letter of why you’re interested in musical theatre directing to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Successful applicants must commit to all 8 sessions.
